Bird Screens

Bird Screens

Many types of birds nest on or in homes.

The culprits may be woodpeckers, starlings, or other small birds. Often the vent and roof top openings in our homes are very similar to the areas that birds are naturally attracted to.

As the original light weight screen applied on the back sides of eave vents and roof vents ages, it gets even softer and becomes brittle – a combination that just wont hold up to a determined bird beak.

We install strong metal bird screens from the exterior. The metal bird screens will last for dozens of years and they blend in very well on most homes.

If accessible, we can also remove and get rid of bird nests. Note*  – not all attic and roof voids allow us to access and remove nests.. We also treat bird nesting areas with diatomaceous earth or amorphous silica gel – to eliminate bird parasites. Parasites that eat wool rugs and clothing, and parasites that bite people.

Common bird screen applications:

Bird screening over eave vents.

Bird Block ScreensFrom ground level, bird screens on most eaves blend in pretty well.

We guarantee exterior screens like these for as long as you own your home. We have installed screens on hundreds of area homes.

A lot of homeowners are pleased with the low visual impact.

Another example. Here we re-screened over a metal screen that covered the entire eave bay.

Note, for an additional charge, these vents can be sprayed painted to match your eaves if you provide a color matched paint.

Bird screen over continuous soffit vents.

We can install continuous eave screens with or without wooden trim pieces. Hard to see? It’s right there in between the painted boards running from the lower left to the upper right. 🙂

Sometimes you want to keep pigeons from nesting in sheltered areas.

Sometimes there are openings where different levels of roof meet.  These areas are harder to get into but we can usually still screen them to keep birds, and / or rodents, out.

Notes on Bird Screening:

We get a flood of calls every spring about birds. “There are”: ‘birds in my roof‘, ‘birds in my attic‘, ‘birds in my eaves‘, ‘birds inside my walls‘,and the ever popular ‘there are birds nesting in‘…, and everyone wants to ‘get rid of birds‘, ‘get rid of bird nests‘, or ‘remove birds‘.

When you get rid of birds, It is important to install screens for birds – in every potential nesting or activity area. If you only apply bird screening to the current activity areas the birds will just move over and attack nearby screens.  Birds return to the same neighborhoods and the same homes, year after year.

Also, it is less expensive to have all the areas bird screened in one visit than to pay for many return visits. Call us for a free no-obligation bird screen quote. Most homes will qualify for a ten year warranty.

Safeguard has been providing proven pest bird control solutions for over 20 Years. Most birds only become pests when they nest in, on, or or cause damage to, our homes or businesses. Our bird control solutions focus on deterring birds, and preventing bird infestations. We do bird removal.

We don’t recommend that homeowners install bird screens themselves for two reasons:

Ladders:

  • In the U.S. more than 500,000 people a year are treated for ladder related injuries, and that number does not include people who suffered injuries but did not go to a medical care provider for treatment.
  • About 300 people in the U.S. die from ladder related injuries annually.
  • Estimated annual cost of ladder related injuries is $11 billion, including work loss, medical, legal, liability, and pain and suffering expenses.

Parasites:

  • Birds carry lice, mites, and other parasites.
  • Screening out birds without treating for potential parasites could lead to parasites filtering down into the structure and infesting your living area.
  • The cost of treating your home for parasites could be much higher than the cost of professional bird screening.
